Chocolate Protein Yogurt with Wild Blueberries
My go-to way to enjoy Greek yogurt for 40+ grams of protein!
I’m food obsessed. It’s true. I no longer fight it.
That obsession has led me down different paths throughout my life. In my teens and twenties, it was a lot of take-out, pizza, bar food, burgers, etc. You know, typical American diet stuff.
Then I had kids, and the pendulum swung in the opposite direction. I replaced cow’s milk with almond milk, stopped buying butter and all-purpose flour, upped my veggie intake, and switched to whole grains. Most of my food choices during this decade were primarily about limiting calories. I ate “better,” consuming a lot more produce and nutrient-dense foods, but I demonized many things in my mind.
Now, in my late 40s, I’m more balanced. I no longer keep a food journal or worry about calories. I focus on various foods, primarily homemade (because I enjoy cooking), with an eye on protein since I’m perimenopausal and a weight lifter.
One protein source I lean on is Greek yogurt. It’s taken me a while to appreciate its tartness, but I still can’t eat it straight up. I usually add a sweetener and fruit.
A while back, I decided to mix some flavored whey protein with the yogurt, and wow! What a luxurious combo! Indulgent, even.
My go-to is a scoop of chocolate-flavored whey and 3/4 cup of Greek yogurt. Mix them together until smooth. It takes a minute or two, but after stirring for a bit, the yogurt will hydrate the protein powder. Once it’s nice and creamy, I mix in half a cup of frozen wild blueberries. You could use regular blueberries, of course, but I find these little guys full of flavor, and because of their size, they begin to melt fast while keeping the yogurt chilled.
To top it off, I usually add a mix of cocoa nibs, chopped walnuts, and Grape Nuts cereal, which adds a fantastic crunch!
This is my go-to for a post-workout snack (like today) and sometimes breakfast, which I eat in the car on the way to work. Stay tuned for more protein-packed food ideas because I bore pretty easily in the food department!
